Today is the four year anniversary of 911. Most of us will never forget. Some of us clearly have, as we hear them daily and throughout most of the media. I choose to never forget, and honor those lost that day and the ones who followed in retaliation.
Today I took time to reflect on what happened and where I was. I was at a mediocre job in Baltimore City, for an internship in my last year of school. The office staff crowded into the owner's office to watch the situation unfold. I remember walking into the room and seeing one tower burning. During that time, another plane appeared and crashed into the other tower. What seemed like only moments later, we heard that the Pentagon was hit. Shortly thereafter, the towers collapsed.
On September 20, 2001, President Bush addressed the nation, which profoundly affected me. (View it
here) I had a minor interest in politics during the much contested 2000 election, but after this event, my interest grew. It was such a great feeling when we were in unity. We were all looking for ways to best protect our country. We all showed our patriotism. In fact, as I am writing this now, I am thinking about what the founding fathers might have thought seeing their country attacked. I imagine that it would be similar to their reaction to the British. Did we fight or did we hide? Well, the answer is simple. Had we not fought, we might still be under British rule. History has a way of repeating itself. The technology has changed since the American Revolution, but the fact remains that there are still men who wish to hurt us, and America has the will to survive.
God Bless America
